Songfacts®:

  • Written by Phil Barnhart, Sam Hogin and Mark Sanders, this became Lonestar's first #1 Country hit when it was released as a double A-side single with their song "Tequila Talkin'." Lonestar lead singer Richie McDonald calls it "A quirky little song that we still get tons of requests for."

As portrayed in the video, the song is a about a girl who needs some time away from her relationship, but instead of breaking up, leaves the door open so she can come back if things don't work out. Her man, who fancies himself "an understanding guy," goes along with it and waits for her back home. As time goes by and he hears nothing, he gets increasingly desperate, but still can't face the reality that she's not coming back. All he has from her is "no news."
