Songfacts®:

  • This reflection on life and mortality finds Lynn duetting with Willie Nelson. It's the first collaboration between the pair since they appeared onstage together during the 1985 Farm Aid benefit concert.
  • Willie Nelson's appearance was a surprise to Lynn. She told us: "I didn't even know he was on there, and I was listening to it, and here was Willie."
  • The David McClister-directed video shows Lynn and Nelson separately performing the song in the backstage halls and dressing rooms of Nashville's Municipal Auditorium. Eventually, the pair meet onstage and we see them singing together in an empty auditorium.
  • Willie Nelson and Loretta Lynn both arrived in Nashville around the same time, so this collaboration at the end of their careers on the Full Circle album is particularly apt.
