Songfacts®:

  • A play on the "The Star Spangled Banner" lyric "amber waves of grain," this song was written by Lost Dogs lead singer Terry Taylor, who told us: "I had the title for years and actually attempted to write the song several times before I felt I'd finally done justice to what I thought was a wonderful title. It's a song about lost innocence and moral compromise, especially in regard to national identity. The assassination of JFK, the Vietnam War, segregation - all of these things inspired the song. I find the song to be sad, but hopeful."
