Songfacts®:

  • Here, Louis Tomlinson is singing about the love of his life. Though he's not with her anymore, everything and everywhere seems to remind him of his ex. Louis explained to Apple Music: "It's autobiographical, me making that realization that it's always been that one person and that no matter what you do or what you see, you miss that person."
  • Louis wrote the song in early 2017 with Jason Reeves, Andrew Watt, BURNS and Ali Tamposi. Six months later, he teased 15 seconds of the track on Instagram and for the following two-and-a-half years, fans were clamoring to the track.
  • Louis was unsure about including "Always You" on Walls because its glossy pop sound was different to the more rocky tracks Tomlinson had recorded for the album. It eventually found its way onto the tracklist, albeit with updated production. "Every single time I go online, I see the demand surge for this song, so I was like, for [the fans], I've got to put it on," he told MTV News. "It's a good song. It's for the fans."
