Songfacts®:

  • Love and Theft is an American Country music group comprising Brian Bandas, Stephen Barker Liles and Eric Gunderson, all three of whom sing lead vocals and play guitar. The band were an opening act for Taylor Swift and Liles is the subject of Swift's song "Hey Stephen." This song is their debut single.
  • Liles together with Canaan Smith, and Rob Blackledge wrote this song about someone who wants to "runaway" as his current life is not going well. He told Roughstock about it: "We all agreed unanimously on this for the first single. It means a lot to all of us because we all picked up and left our hometowns, dropped out of college and left everything to pursue our country music dreams. This song is about reaching that breaking point where you actually decide to leave behind a negative part of your life, whether it be an unhealthy relationship or a job or a hometown and pursue something different, something new and positive. It's about that point where you stop talking about it and you actually do it. That's what we all did. If we hadn't all been runaways, we wouldn't be here right now. Life is too short to not enjoy the journey."
  • This debuted at #65 in the Hot 100 on the chart dated September 12, 2009. In doing so it logged the highest first-week sales for a digital single by a debut country artist in 2009.
