  • Oh, what a blessing to meet someone like you
With eyes as dead as mine, it's fine
It's normal people things just to lie here in silence

Lovejoy frontman William Gold has discovered a kindred spirit to bond over shared struggles. No longer alone in their emotional and psychological battles, they find mutual understanding.

"That song is about finding someone who ironically isn't normal," Gold explained to NME, "and that rare connection you get where you go 'oh damn, You're different but in a good way.'"
  • The Lovejoy quartet penned "Normal People Things" on tour, channeling the raw energy of bands like The Hives into a turbo-charged track that clocks in at just 2:44. "The length is entirely down to how long the song needs to be," said Gold. "If we had more elements we needed to touch on, it would be longer. I like the simplicity of the subject and the punchiness of the outcome."
  • Finnish producer Psylla, aka Aleksi Kiiskinen, produced the song. Psylla also co-wrote and co-produced all the tracks on Youtuber James Marriott's EP Bitter Tongues.
  • The Ted Nivison-directed video was filmed in Los Angeles during Lovejoy's summer 2023 US tour.

"I wanted to take the concept behind the song and flip it on its head, placing the band in the weirdest form of a 'Normal Person Thing' which in this case was those old awkward family portraits from the '70s-'90s," said Nivison. "I really wanted to have most of the video be like a collection of living portrait photography, with only the final chorus being the moment in which they break out of it."

American social media personality and filmmaker Ted Nivison gained fame for his Ted Nivison YouTube channel. On the channel, he primarily posts comedy videos about various amusing topics and pokes fun at ridiculous people. He also directed the video for James Marriott's song "Gold."
