Songfacts®:

  • "Breaker" is both a straight-up anti-war song and something more private. "War is personal - it's you killing someone, it's you getting killed, right? So yeah, it's both," Low's Sparhawk explained to Uncut magazine. "It's looking at yourself going, 'What is it about me that apparently I destroy? What is up with that? How do I stop doing that? War is just as much your fault as anybody else's. I'm a human being. I'm clearly capable of horrific violence. What's up with that? Because it sure hasn't it sure hasn't done humanity much good."
  • Low recorded "Breaker" for Drums and Guns, an album inspired by the Iraq War.
  • Low teamed up with producer Dave Fridmann (Mercury Rev, Flaming Lips) for Drums and Guns. For this song, Fridmann emphasizes the organ, which amplifies the anguish of the lyrics.
