Songfacts®:

  • This is the first official single from American rapper Ludacris' seventh studio album, Battles of the Sexes. The long player was originally a collaboration with Disturbin Tha Peace member Shawnna but was reformatted upon her signing with Nappy Boy.
  • The song was debuted at the BET Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta on October 27th, 2009, when Ludacris performed it as the second half of a medley that began with Lil Scrappy's "Addicted to Money", a song on which he is featured.
  • "How Low" entered at #13 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it Ludacris' highest debut on the chart, and his first Top Twenty hit since "Runaway Love" in 2007.
  • The song contains a sample of "Bring The Noise" by Public Enemy.
  • Ludacris explained to MTV News that this song is a trip down memory lane: "We really was just taking it back," he said. "We coming up on my 10-year anniversary in 2010 - thinking about the essence of (debut single, which featured Shawna) 'What's Your Fantasy,' but it's the 2010 version. It's about the clubs, the radio. I feel like everybody could relate."
  • Battle of the Sexes was the first rap album to top the Billboard 200 for six months, the previous one being Jay-Z's The Blueprint 3 in early October 2009. Since the mid 2000s there has been a steady decline in chart topping rap albums. Whilst in 2004 there were 12 #1s belonging to that genre in 2009 there were only 4, (Jay-Z's disc plus, Eminem's Relapse, Rick Ross' Deeper Than Rap and Fabolous' Loso's Way).
