Songfacts®:

  • As a busy touring musician, Lukas Graham frontman Lukas Forchhammer lives much of his life away from his friends back home in Denmark. The singer wishes they were here with him to share his experiences as he travels the world. "It's an anthem to the best friends," Lukas Graham explained in the lyric video. "We all know the feeling of standing on the edge or the top of the world and missing someone special. It's always at big events and special occasions that I miss those unique people in my life that made me who I am today."
  • American singer-songwriter Khalid joins Forchhammer on the track. It's the first time Khalid has worked with Lukas Graham.
  • Lukas Forchhammer wrote "Wish You Were Here" with Gregory Aldae Hein (Rich Brian's "Yellow," Demi Lovato and Marshmello's "OK Not To Be OK") and the song's producers, Ryan Tedder and Andrew DeRoberts. Tedder and DeRoberts also co-wrote and co-produced OneRepublic's Human track "Somebody To Love."
  • Forchhammer penned the song with Tedder remotely. They originally planned to meet up in LA for a writing session, but the Danish singer missed his flight, then Tedder went on vacation.
  • Director and photographer Blythe Thomas filmed the song's visual. "When I watch the video to 'Wish You Were Here,' the lyrics magnify and reverberate inside my heart," said Lukas Forchhammer. "Missing the ones I love the most is a terrible feeling, luckily I get to see most of them again. I love the way the visual captures the vast loneliness of the lyrics."

Blythe Thomas' other clients include Hozier ("Almost (Sweet Music)," Julia Michaels ("Little Did I Know," "All Your Exes") and Kelsea Ballerini ("Club," "I Quit Drinking," "A Rose (Poem)").
