Songfacts®:

  • This Rodney Clawson, Chris Tompkins and Josh Kear penned song finds Bryan telling the story of a man who is admiring his girlfriend. He sings in the chorus, "I'm a little drunk on you, and high on summertime." Bryan wrote on his Facebook page: "It's a song that a buddy of mine, Rodney Clawson, [co-wrote] and the second I heard it I knew it was something I was going to cut. We feel it will be a fun summertime song."
  • Rodney Clawson told Taste of Country: "The line, 'Drip of honey on the money maker, gotta be the best buzz I'm ever gonna find' ... People from where I grew up just look at me and say the line to me, and they'll be like, 'What does that mean?' My standard answer is, 'Exactly what you think it does.' The song is about a girl that this guy is just head over heels about."
  • Jason Aldean found himself touring with Luke Bryan in early 2012 and listened to his tour mate playing this song every night. He told country radio consultants Albright & O'Malley. "That song got pitched to us and at the time, for whatever reason, I wasn't looking for that type of song and we ended up passing on it ... I'll probably be kicking myself!"
  • The song's music video was directed by Shaun Silva and acts as the sequel to the clip for Bryan's previous single, "I Don't Want This Night To End." Actress and model Cameron Richardson plays his love interest.
  • This was Bryan's fifth country #1. "From the time that we released Tailgates & Tanlines and were doing 'Drunk on You' live, we could really see a lot of people participating and doing the 'boom booms' and singing along," he said.

Bryan added that they felt like the song, "was the cornerstone of the album. We were just making sure that we wanted to pick the right singles to get to the summertime and to get to 'Drunk On You'."
