Songfacts®:

  • Here, Luke Bryan sheds light on his love for hunting while getting closer to God in nature.

I do my prayin' in a deer stand
    On my back-forty church
Thinkin' 'bout life on a cold sunrise
Yeah, that's my Heaven on Earth

The country star explains on the faith-based tune that a deer stand is just as much a sacred place for him as church. In the stillness of the Georgia woods, miles away from civilization, Bryan's mind runs free. He can focus on talking to the Almighty, knowing the omnipresent Most High is there listening to him.
  • Bryan co-wrote "Prayin' in a Deer Stand" with Nicolle Galyon and Jimmy Robbins. "This is such a personal song to me," said the singer. "The world can be a busy place and I, like a lot of people, have a ton of different things going on but getting to be outside, it grounds and reenergizes me. There is just something about it that never gets old."
  • Other songs co-written by Galyon and Robbins include Keith Urban and Miranda Lambert's "We Were Us" and Kelsea Ballerini (featuring Kenny Chesney)'s "Half of My Hometown."
  • Further Luke Bryan odes to the outdoor life include "Muckalee Creek," where he recalls his boyhood days catching crawfish and hunting squirrels and rabbits; the self-explanatory "Huntin,' Fishin' and Lovin' Every Day"; and "Born Here Live Here Die Here," about enjoying the Georgia rivers and woods.
