Songfacts®:

  • "Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset" finds Luke Bryan telling the story of being hired by a father to paint a lakehouse, in return for free lodging there. When his daughter rolls in, the result is a summer romance.

    Sunrise, sunburn, sunset, repeat
Moonlight, all night, crashing into me
Nothing will ever be easy as you and me
Tangled up with nowhere to be

Bryan explained: "It talks about love in a summer and summer love. It doesn't get any better than summer love way back when. And then when you say 'Sunrise, Sunburn, Sunset, Repeat,' that's what you do in the summer. You wake up. You go get your tan on, and the sun goes down and you do it over and over."
  • The song was written by Sam Hunt's main songwriting wingman Zach Crowell, Maren Morris' husband Ryan Hurd and Nashville songwriter Chase McGill ("When Someone Stops Loving You," "Break Up in the End"). Its tale of a summer romance is right up Luke Bryan's ballpark - the singer's debut album was dated Tailgates & Tanlines and he's also released a succession of spring break-themed EPs.
  • Filmed by Michael Monaco in June 2018 on Dale Hollow Lake at the Sunset Marina & Resort outside of Nashville, the video follows a young couple enjoying some fun by the water with some friends. There are also shots of Bryan performing with a beautiful lakeside sunset as his backdrop.
