Songfacts®:

  • LUMP is a collaboration between singer-songwriter Laura Marling and Mike Lindsey of English folktronica band Tunng. One recurring theme that runs through the duo's self-titled album is Marling taking an eyebrow-raised look at California's crystal worshipping New Agers. This rolling-grooved cut finds her taking on the role of a new age priestess.

"I still love that New Age stuff,", she stressed to Q Magazine "but it's just the indulgence of it. What comes to the surface is a sickness of it."

"It is quite a new age record, though," Lindsey added. "The flutes and the drones."
