Songfacts®:

  • This song is the story of a boy and his love for skateboarding. Lupe raps about the first minute the boy rode on the skateboard, which caused him to bust his lip, to finding love in a girl who also loves skateboarding. "Kick, Push" describes the motion of how you would ride a skateboard, which can also be a metaphor for life: "Kick, push, kick, push and coast..." >>>

  • Fiasco found a very obscure song to sample on this track. The music with the strings comes from "Bolero Medley" by the Philippine singer Celeste Legaspi.
  • Fiasco originally did the song as a tribute for a skate shop. "It was never supposed to be a single, never meant to be a single," he said interview with DJ Skee for SkeeTV. "It was for a skate shop called Uprise for a skate DVD, and then it just took a life of its own."
  • This song was rumored to be about drug dealing - "pushing" drugs and then "coasting" away from the cops. Fiasco says it has nothing to do with drugs.
