Songfacts®:

  • What do UFO and Lynsey de Paul have in common? They both wrote songs called "Rock Bottom" and "Doctor Doctor."

As might be expected, the rockers' tracks are both uptempo; Lynsey's "Rock Bottom" - which was co-written with Mike Moran - was runner up in the 1977 Eurovision Song Contest, but this downtempo track from her debut Surprise album is one of her lost treasures.

Running to 2 minutes 53 seconds, it sees her visiting the shrink, which might just be autobiographical. It is well documented that the lovely Lynsey had an unhappy childhood, and there was also the little matter of being hit by a bus as a teen, which left her confined to a hospital bed for three months. Although it is certainly singles material, "Doctor Doctor" was never released as such. >>
