Songfacts®:

  • Most vampires are vulnerable to sunlight and are known primarily as "nightcrawlers." A "Daywalker" is a vampire who is unaffected by sunlight. The title does not appear in this song's lyrics, nor do the lyrics have anything to do with vampires. Instead, the song finds MGK and guest rapper Corpse Husband recounting their violent fantasies. Both vocalists portray themselves as short-fused individuals you definitely don't want to upset.
  • YouTuber Corpse Husband is known for producing horror-centered content in a deep bass voice. He made his musical debut in 2016, and four years later reached #124 in the US with his "E-Girls Are Ruining My Life!" single. This song fuses MGK's pop-punk sound with Corpse's horror-core rap.
  • The violent imagery is part of MGK's remit to provoke. The "My Ex's Best Friend" singer told LA radio station KROQ that by upsetting people, he wants to keep them interested in him.

"I just mean make them think again. Make them have a moment of like, 'This artist is so polarizing I have to tune in,'" he explained. "Because I don't want to be bored with an artist, and I think Kanye's a great example of that. We all have moments of sitting at dinner tables talking about Kanye and being like, 'I didn't like this!' or, 'I loved this!' or, 'Why is he doing that?!'"
  • Machine Gun Kelly and Corpse Husband wrote the song with the track's producers, BazeXX and SlimXX. Steve "BazeXX" Basil plays bass and keyboards for MGK and Brandon "SlimXX" Allen is his hype man.
  • Machine Gun Kelly directed the video with Sam Cahill. It sees MGK and Corpse Husband teaming up with the online personality Valkyra for an array of bloody and creepy scenarios.
