Songfacts®:

  • This song is about Gray's tumultuous and conflicted relationship with Tracy Hinds, the father of her three children. They got married, but according to Gray, he left her when she was pregnant with their third. In this song, she sings about being abused by him, but loving him still.

Gray got her record deal around the time their marriage was ending, and on many of the songs she wrote for it, she was exploring her feelings about Hinds. The couple never did get back together, but it took Gray a long time to close the door. (For more, see our Macy Gray interview.)
  • This was the follow-up single to "I Try," which was a huge hit for Gray. "Still" did well in the UK but was ignored in America, where she never had another Top 40 hit.
