Songfacts®:

  • Born in Clarksville, a small town of around 1,500 people in Iowa, Maddie Pope got her start performing at the Butler County Fairgrounds in Allison, Iowa. Having learned to play guitar, ukulele and keyboard, she released her first album of original material in 2016. Titled Songs From The Basement, Poppe wrote, recorded and produced the entire record herself.

Maddie auditioned for Season 16 of American Idol, reaching the final. Co-finalist Gabby Barrett was eliminated halfway through the show, leaving Caleb Lee Hutchinson and Maddie. In a surprise twist, the remaining two singers revealed that they are dating, so when Maddie was announced the winner, Caleb didn't seem too disappointed at finishing runner-up to her.
  • This folk-influenced pop rocker was released as Poppe's coronation song. It was written by Julia Michaels (Justin Bieber's "Sorry," Selena Gomez's "Good For You"), Lindy Robbins (Selena Gomez & the Scene's "A Year Without Rain," Demi Lovato's "Skyscraper") and Mitch Allan (Kris Allen's "No Boundaries," Demi Lovato's "Heart Attack"). The song is somewhat reminiscent of Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips' coronation song "Home" whilst the title reminds us of another of his hit singles "Gone, Gone, Gone."
