Songfacts®:

  • After releasing their first album on Dot Records, Maddie and Tae were facing an uncertain future because their record label shut down. They didn't know where their career stood, or even if they were going to keep making music. Eventually they signed a new deal with UMG Nashville. This moody ballad, in which one woman warns another that their new boyfriend's promises may be too good to be true, is the title track of their first EP with their new label.
  • Taylor Dye explained in a press release that they chose "One Heart to Another" to be the title track as it proved to be a special song for them. "We were pretty much in between our deals at the point and were very confused and very just insecure as people, and songwriters and a duo," she explained. "And you know, it was just one of those days we went into a writing room and just didn't care what anyone would think about the music we were writing."

"We just thought 'You know what? Let's write something that means something to us, and let's say stuff we've never said, be bold, tell the truth.' So, that really is what shaped the entire record at that point," Dye continued. "Was just kind of being bold and being unapologetic about it, and so 'One Heart to Another' just fit that perfectly."
