Madonna hearkens back to her Catholic background on this church version of "Vogue," in which she namechecks Jesus Christ as well as various saints:

Hail Mary full of grace, get down on your knees and pray

St. Sebastian don't you cry let those poison arrows fly

However, in a similar fashion to St. Augustine, whom as a youth prayed, "Give me chastity but not yet," we hear the Queen of Pop declaring that she wants to be saved, but not quite yet.
The song is one of several on MDNA to be produced by William Orbit, who was Madonna's primary collaborator on her Ray of Light album. ''Something magical happens when I work with William," she told Sirius XM Radio. "He is a tortured soul, and he brings out the tortured soul in me.'"
