Songfacts®:

  • Here, Mae Stephens teams up with American singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor to croon about the search for Mr Right. Stephens released the disco-pop song as the follow-up single to her breakthrough hit "If We Ever Broke Up" on August 4, 2023.
  • "Mr Right" is a song about the search for the perfect partner. Over a shimmering, sun-soaked disco beat, Mae Stephens explains her thoughts about the current roster of eligible bachelors in her orbit. She lets it be known with an air of confident independence that flying solo suits her just fine. Yet, like a reluctant romantic adventurer, she's giving the dating scene a side-eye, ready to dip her toes into the pool of potential admirers.
  • Enter Meghan Trainor, serving up a sassy serving of empowerment. Unapologetically, she makes it crystal clear that she won't settle for anything less than the royal treatment she's worthy of. Meghan's not holding back, vowing to keep her options wide open until she finds a guy willing to step up and treat her like the queen she is.
  • Stephens and Trainor wrote "Mr Right" with songwriter Jake Torrey and its producers, Jason Gill and Victor Rådström.

LA songwriter/producer Jake Torrey has also worked with the likes of Justin Bieber ("Off My Face"), Charlie Puth ("Light Switch") and Yungblud ("The Funeral").

Jason Gill specializes in working with female artists. He resumé includes credits with Katy Perry ("Never Really Over"), Zara Larsson ("Love Me Land") and Bebe Rexha ("Baby, I'm Jealous").

Victor Rådström is co-founder of Neiked, a Swedish artist collective of singers, songwriters and record producers. They've had a number of hit songs, including "Sexual" and "Better Days." Rådström is also a producer and songwriter in his own right.
