Songfacts®:

  • Major Lazer is a collaborative music project headed by Philadelphia producer Diplo (Usher's "Climax," Chris Brown's "Look At Me Now"). This X-rated tribute to girls' behinds features verses by rappers 2 Chainz and Tyga as well as dancehall queen Mystic over Diplo's electro cursor-squiggles.
  • Bruno Mars croons the hook as well as co-writing the song: Diplo recalled to UK newspaper The Sun: "Bruno and me were working on tracks for the No Doubt record, so we did this for fun."
  • Pitchfork's Nate Patrin slated the song, especially Tyga's rhymes, which he called, "maybe the most shut-the-f--k-up verse of the year." Diplo responded to the criticism telling The Sun: "I know Pitchfork said 'Bubble Butt' is the worst song of the year but for me, it's the biggest record we've ever done. Credibility doesn't mattter to me at all. I've never had credibility – I'm a white dude doing reggae."
  • The video finds several women's behinds being injected with air like balloons. The clip was directed by Eric Wareheim of the comedy troupe "Tim and Eric." Wareheim has directed several other visuals for Major Lazer including the one for "Pon De Replay."
