Songfacts®:

  • Vocalist Mikey Chapman told Kerrang! he penned this track during a time when he felt "absolutely destroyed." He added: "I was writing it through bloodshot, teary eyes – it's raw!"
  • Chapman explained the song's meaning to Artist Direct: "'Dare You' was written about the immediate period after breaking up with somebody," he said. "It's very important. I'm not talking about a two-week fling where you don't live in the same town, and there's no point. I'm talking about four or five years of a connection or bond with someone. When that comes to an end, it's like part of your life comes crashing down. It completely changes around to where you can't recognize it anymore. That person becomes a part of you. When that relationship ends, you lose a part of yourself. That's the basic premise of that song to me."
