Songfacts®:

  • Matthew West wrote this song for the Veggie Tales movie The Pirates Who Don't Do Anything. West, whose popular solo efforts include "You Are Everything" and "The Motions," told us that he was commissioned to write a funky and soulful song for the film. Said West: "They gave me a script to the movie and commissioned me to write a song that captured the heart of that script. So that's what I did. And then knowing what type of artist was going to record it, that sent me stylistically in a specific direction. So that's how the song came to be. And that's typically how it goes when I write a song for somebody else, I'll get in like an assignment mode with some parameters to work around. That's one of my favorite things to do, to write a song with a specific assignment in mind." (Here's our full Matthew West interview.)
  • When we spoke with West in 2011, he told us that his kids aren't into Veggie Tales or all that impressed with what he does, preferring Taylor Swift.
