  • Swedish singer and television presenter Måns Zelmerlöw first entered the public eye in 2005 when he took part in season 2 of the Swedish version of Idol, finishing in fifth place.

Zelmerlöw took part the following year in the first season of Let's Dance. Partnered with Maria Karlsson, he finished as the winner in the final.

Zelmerlöw competed in Melodifestivalen 2007, Sweden's national final for the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Cara Mia." He finished in third place behind winners The Ark. "Cara Mia" was released as a single and became his first hit, topping the Swedish charts.

He participated in Melodifestivalen again in 2009 with the song "Hold On," this time finishing in fouth place behind Malena Ernman.

This upbeat pop track was Zelmerlöw's third participation in Melodifestivalen. "Heroes" won the selection for Eurovision in 2015 receiving 288 points, beating the second placed song with a record marginal of 149 points.
  • Zelmerlöw performed the song at the Eurovision final in Vienna with an innovative presentation incorporating video animation. He won the contest with 365 points, the third-highest score in the history of the competition. In his acceptance speech Zelmerlöw said: "I'm so extremely happy. I want to thank everyone for voting for me. We are all heroes. No matter who we are, who we love or what we believe in. We are all heroes."
  • This was Sweden's sixth Eurovision victory; their first win came in 1974 with ABBA's "Waterloo."
