Songfacts®:

  • Marc Griffin is a San Francisco singer-songwriter known professionally as Marc E. Bassy. A former vocalist of the Los Angeles-based pop outfit 2AM Club, Griffin has also written for artists such as Sean Kingston ("Beat It") and Pia Mia ("Do It Again").
  • This reggae pop song was released as the lead single from Bassy's second EP, Groovy People. It features a verse by Oakland rapper and Bassy's tourmate G-Eazy. The track was the fourth collaboration between the pair and the second to reach a Billboard chart. "Some Kind of Drug" with G-Eazy as the lead, reached the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally back in December 2015.
  • The song is a laid back look at post break-up life. Bassy explained to Genius:

"My social circle overlaps with my ex-girlfriend's social circle. So I might just see her. Sometimes you can break-up and never see that person again, but in my life, I never know when I'm going to run into my ex.

That's kind of what the song is about, if we bump into each other on a crowded street, or a party, or Coachella; it could be anywhere."
