  • This cover of Foreigner's 1984 Hot 100 #1 hit is the second single from Mariah Carey's 12th studio album, Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel. Other early '80s tracks Carey has covered include Journey's "Open Arms," Def Leppard's "Bringin' On the Heartbreak" and Phil Collins' "Against All Odds (Take A Look At Me Now)."
  • Long-time collaborator Big Jim Wright, along with Christopher "Tricky" Stewart, produced this song. Carey told MTV News about Wright's contribution to Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel: "I worked with Big Jim Wright, who works with Sounds of Blackness a lot, and so there's live-feeling songs on the album. A lot of my fans, since I've been twittering, a lot of the fans are like, 'We want some live-sounding stuff,' so you have to find that middle ground."
  • The Hype Williams-directed music video finds Carey singing at New York's Yankee Stadium.
  • In a 2009 Songfacts interview, Mick Jones of Foreigner said he liked Mariah's version because it didn't stray too far from the original arrangement. He also thought she captured the feeling of the '80s love ballad. "I think she's put a lot of emotion into it," he said. "You can feel that she's gotten inside of the song."
  • Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel peaked at #3 on the albums chart. It wasn't a big seller compared to Carey's previous releases, selling around 550,000 copies in the US while E=MC2 sold over a million and The Emancipation Of Mimi sold 6 million.
