Songfacts®:

  • This is a sequel to Mariah's 1997 Butterfly track "The Roof," which was inspired by the beginning of her affair with Derek Jeter of the New York Yankees. In "Lullaby," she's tempted to rekindle the romance against her better judgment.
  • This was produced by the team of Dre & Vidal, who have also worked with Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keys, Usher, Ludacris, and Justin Bieber, among others.
  • This appears on Mariah's ninth studio album, Charmbracelet, which was her first release through Island Records. The album peaked at #3 in the US and sold around a million copies. She had much greater success with her subsequent album, The Emancipation Of Mimi, which sold 6 million copies in the US and 10 million worldwide.
