Songfacts®:

  • On this soft ballad Carey sings with happiness and thankfulness over redemptive love that has returned to make life rich again. She told Elle Magazine that this song is especially meaningful to her as it, "is very much where my life is right now because I am actually in love for the first time." (Carey is referring to her marriage to actor/rapper Nick Cannon).
  • In the lyrics, Carey recalls her engagement to Cannon, who proposed to her with an Asscher cut pink and white engagement ring concealed inside of a candy Ring Pop wrapper. The moment also inspired another track on the album: "Candy Bling."
  • Carey references the R&B quartet Jodeci as providing the soundtrack to her and Cannon's lovemaking. She also pledges, "I'm forever your lady," which is a nod to the group's debut album, Forever My Lady, and its title track. Carey wasn't Cannon's lady forever, though. The couple filed for divorce in 2014 after six years of marriage.
  • Carey teamed with Rihanna's "Umbrella" hitmakers Terius "The Dream" Nash and Christopher "Tricky" Stewart for her 12th studio album, Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel. Although it wasn't her most successful album, selling around 500,000 copies in the US, it spawned the Top 10 hit "Obsessed," which reached the 3 million sales mark in 2020.
