Songfacts®:

  • This is a collaboration between Philadelphia electronic-pop duo Marian Hill and Fifth Harmony's Lauren Jauregui. The song was recorded at Marian Hill producer Jeremy Lloyd's apartment in New York. It was Jauregui's first solo feature.

The song takes place in a club, with Jauregui knowing the guy trying to play it cool by turning his back to her will be with her by the end of the night.
  • Jauregui croons the second verse and alternates with Marian Hill's Samantha Gongol on the chorus.

"Ever since we first met Lauren at our show at the Roxy over a year ago, we've been talking about making something together," said Marian Hill. "Somehow, in the midst of both of our schedules, we managed to make it happen. 'Back To Me' began with the two of us on a plane and Lauren in a hotel room, ending with the recording in Jeremy's bedroom. It has been our jam for the past several months. Now it belongs to you."
  • Marian Hill was very much under the radar when this song was released. They had signed a record deal just a year earlier and had developed a following on the internet. While Jauregui's Fifth Harmony bandmates would talk about having acts like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande on their playlists, she would mention Marian Hill, baffling interviewers. Having Jauregui was a nice feather for the duo, who got a bigger break in 2017 when their song "Down" was used in an Apple commercial.
