Songfacts®:

  • "Just Fine" is a song about being positive regarding life and how good it feels to feel good. Blige explained to MTV News that the song was written based on her having a good day: "You know, I can have 30 or 40 [bad days]. I can have as many bad days as anyone. But I choose to say, 'I'm just fine.' Right now. You know those days when your hair looks good, you're not sitting in traffic, your man's not acting like an idiot. You're just fine. So it's OK to have those days. So instead of coming with something ungrateful to the universe, how about I come with something first that's says, 'You know what? It's OK. Enjoy this day if you're having a great day.'"
  • The song was produced by Tricky Stewart and The-Dream, who were also behind "Umbrella." The duo originally wrote "Umbrella" for Blige but she was too busy to record it so they handed it to Rihanna instead.
  • Blige performed this song at the 2007 American Music Awards. >>>

  • This was Blige's first UK Top 20 single as a purely solo artist since "No More Drama" reached #9 in 2002.
  • This was nominated for two Grammy awards: Best Female R&B Vocal Performance in 2008 (winner: Alicia Keys' "No One") and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical in 2009 (winner: Justice's remix of MGMT's "Electric Feel").
  • In Season 1 of Lip Sync Battle, Empire co-stars Terrence Howard and Taraji Henson faced off in their first round with Howard lip syncing Boyz II Men's "I'll Make Love to You" versus Henson's "Just Fine." In the middle of Henson's performance, Blige showed up and joined her for a duet.
