Songfacts®:

  • Breakfast At Tiffany's is the 1961 film which won the 1962 Academy Award for the Best Original Song, "Moon River." In 1966, a stage musical based on the same film appeared initially under the title Holly Golightly - the name of the lead female character who was played in the film by Audrey Hepburn, who also sang "Moon River."

It was renamed Breakfast At Tiffany's but for whatever reason, producer David Merrick decided to scrap the show before it made it to Broadway. The title song - the second in the show - was written by Bob Merrill and performed by Mary Tyler Moore. A fairly run-of-the-mill number, nevertheless like the musical itself, it deserved a better fate. It is not to be confused with any later song of the same title. >>
