Songfacts®:

  • Dutch musician Mason first hit the clubs with "Exceeder" in the summer of 2006. The electro banger was an underground hit but it was too dark, too weird, and too intense for the mainstream charts.

But Mason had a trick up his sleeve – he mashed-up "Exceeder" with a remix of New York rapper Princess Superstar's 2005 single "Perfect," transforming it into a hit throughout Europe. In the UK it peaked at #3.
  • This was Mason's only UK hit, though he did reach the Belgian charts with his 2011 cover of Eruption's "Runaway." Princess Superstar (real name Concetta Kirschner) previously charted in the UK with her novelty single "Bad Babysitter," which reached #11 in 2003.
  • I'm perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect, perfect
    That's right, I'm a superstar

Princess Superstar's lyrics in "Perfect (Exceeder)" are braggadocios and celebratory, boasting about her talent, confidence, and luxurious lifestyle.
  • The Marcus Adams-directed music video stars Lauren Ridealgh, Casey Batchelor and Lisa Shepley as gymnasts who mime to Princess Superstar's lyrics.
  • "Perfect (Exceeder)" found a wider audience when it was used in commercials and media, including the trailer for the Sacha Baron Cohen 2009 mockumentary comedy film Brüno. The song returned to the UK Singles Charts in early 2024 after featuring in the soundtrack for the film Saltburn. This time it peaked at #26.
