Songfacts®:

  • This track looks past the commercialism of Christmas and explores a more sorrowful side. It was inspired by the true story of a two-year-old boy named Dax Locke, who was dying of leukemia. He loved Christmas, so around the time of Halloween, his family decided to skip the Halloween decorations and go straight to the celebration of Christ's birth. The neighborhood caught on to what they were doing and the whole community rallied behind the Locke family to give Dax a special Christmas experience a few months early. Inspired by the story, Matthew West penned a song telling the story of Dax's last Christmas. The accompanying video became one of the most viewed clips on YouTube in late 2010.
