Songfacts®:

  • A correspondent of The Max Miller Appreciation Society told this website the Cheeky Chappie recorded this song on November 4, 1936; it was released on HMV backed by "The Woman Improver." Not as risqué as some of his recordings, "Mary From The Dairy" became Miller's signature tune, and he performed it in the film Hoots Mon, which according to the Internet Movie Database, was released April 27, 1940.
  • The music was composed by Sam Kern, and the words were supplied by Kern, James Walsh and Miller himself. In January 2009, one on-line music store priced a copy of the 1950 sheet music at £22.00. >>>
