Songfacts®:

  • Meduza is an Italian production trio comprising Mattia Vitale, Simone Giani and Luca De Gregorio. Each of them started out producing electronic music separately before teaming up in 2014.
  • This deep house cut is a collaboration with London based pop trio Goodboys. It became the first UK hit for both acts after Mistajam began pushing the track on his BBC dance anthems show.
  • Luca De Gregorio told Change Underground the collaboration was sparked by a mutual friend who sent Meduza some of Goodboys material. A year later Goodboys decided to meet Meduza in a studio in London and they worked on a session all together in one room. After working on three or four tracks they decided to take a break and "have some fun writing something different, something not standard for the scene."

They came up with the first verse and the "Da, da, da, uh, uh " chorus of "Piece of Your Heart" and everyone in the studio gave it the thumbs up, so they completed the song and released it.
  • Forty seconds into the song, Josh of The Goodbyes suggests, seemingly off the cuff, "What? Sorry, just quickly." Though the six decided to keep his quirky talking bit in the song, not everybody else agreed.

"Meduza and Goodboys are co-managed by the same management company with two different managers," Josh explained to OfficialCharts.com. "One of them said you definitely need to take out that bit and the other said you definitely need to keep it in. People love that speaking bit, it's what makes it stand out."
