Megan Moroney was raised in Douglasville, Georgia, and comes from a musical household. She describes her brand as "emo cowgirl," pouring her heart out in her songs.
She initially set her sights on a career in accounting at the University of Georgia, but music always held a strong pull. After opening for Chase Rice at a local concert her freshman year, Moroney realized she'd found her true passion. She decided to drop out, but her parents nixed that idea, so she graduated before moving to Nashville. Moroney studied digital marketing and music business, which came in handy when she turned pro as a musician.
During her college years, Moroney landed an internship with Kristian Bush of Sugarland and his brother Brandon. When she moved to Nashville after completing her degree, Kristian checked in and helped her record some demos. He recognized Moroney's talent and became her producer.
The year 2022 marked a turning point for Moroney. Her single "Tennessee Orange" became a huge hit, reaching the Top Five on the Country Airplay chart. The song's theme, a love story set against the backdrop of rival college football teams, resonated with many listeners.
After the release of "Tennessee Orange," Moroney sported a Tennessee Volunteers shirt owned by country singer Morgan Wallen, sparking relationship rumors. She remained tight-lipped about their connection.
The success of "Tennessee Orange" led to a record deal with Arista Nashville. The label shut down while the song was climbing the charts and transferred Moroney to another major label, Columbia Records Nashville.
Megan Moroney's cell phone is almost always dead, or nearly so. "I always forget a phone charger. At all times, my phone is on 2 percent," she admitted to Taste Of Country Nights. "It's so annoying - I'm that person."
At 16, after a painful breakup, Megan Moroney's father took her to Guitar Center to lift her spirits. She selected a guitar that wasn't on sale, and when her father balked at the price, she touchingly remarked, "I've had my heart broken once this week; I think I could handle it again if you don't want to get this."

Moved by her words, he purchased the guitar, which she still cherishes today.
Megan Moroney's Notes app on her phone is a chaotic jumble of hooks, lyric fragments, and mundane errands - sometimes it might read "eggs" followed by a full song concept. Occasionally, she doesn't even remember what she meant by a scribbled idea.
While touring, Moroney brings writers on the bus and sets up a little studio. She's a morning person and prefers writing right after waking up. She doesn't pressure herself to finish songs, either - if it's not working, she'll just stop.
While performing a run of shows in Las Vegas, Megan Moroney gambled with poker chips printed with her own face, only to lose. "It's one thing to lose money," she quipped in a late night TV interview, "but when you're on the money... they're laughing in your face."
Moroney enjoys writing songs that feel relatable yet cinematic. She frames small, everyday moments - like wearing a rival school's shirt or getting a late phone call from an ex - as the catalyst for larger emotional storytelling.
