Songfacts®:

  • "Nice To Meet Ya" is a self-empowerment anthem in which Meghan Trainor states there's no need to change herself just to please a man.

I used to care way too much
    Filtered myself, I thought I wasn't enough
Now I'm givin' myself nothin' but love

Having suffered from negative self-esteem, Trainor has learned to love herself for who she is.
  • Nicki Minaj supplies a braggadocio guest verse in which she talks about how she's always been happy to do her own thing.

One minute, I'm nice, the next, a monster

The Queens MC is referencing her star-making verse on Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy track "Monster." Her iconic guest spot is commonly singled out as the song's highlight, besting the contributions of Ye, Jay-Z, and Rick Ross.
  • "Nice To Meet Ya" marks the first time that Meghan Trainor has collaborated with Nicki Minaj on a song. The "All About That Bass" singer had long dreamed of teaming up with Queen of Rap, but when she sent her the demo she doubted Minaj would write a verse on it.

"I didn't know if she would actually hear it or like it," Trainor told Radio.com. "And she did, and she wrote the best verse I've ever heard ever on it. It really completed the song and took it to that woman empowerment level that I only could dream of on any song."
  • Minaj and Trainor didn't meet until they filmed the song's music video. Trainor wrote the treatment, inspired by one of her favorite movies, 1988's Working Girl. In the energetic clip, she plays a woman working in a male-dominated office. A pink-haired Minaj portrays one of her fellow workers.
  • Meghan Trainor told Billboard she sees this as "a relative" to her 2016 single "No."
