Songfacts®:

  • The song "Embrace The Rub" from the Melvins' 2018 release Pinkus Abortion Technician was written by the band's bass player, Steven McDonald, who originally planned to pitch it to his bandmates in punk band Off!
  • Boredom and malaise are the themes here:

Why you gotta make your mama so crazy
'Cause you just want to lay around all day

To "embrace the rub" likely alludes to something Green Day sang about in "Longview."
  • The album title is inspired by the 1997 Butthole Surfers' album Locust Abortion Technician. Pinkus is the first Melvins' album to feature two bass players, including Jeff Pinkus of the Butthole Surfers. The album also features covers of two Butthole Surfers songs: "Graveyard," and "Moving to Florida," which is the second part of a mashup including a cover of the James Gang's version of "Stop." The combination is aptly titled "Stop Moving to Florida."
