Songfacts®:

  • In 1976, Rough Trade Records opened off London's Ladbroke Grove, and quickly became a distributor as well as a shop. Two years later, some French punks walked into the shop. Métal Urbain had also been formed in 1976, at the genesis of punk, and as punk was born in London with The Sex Pistols it was not that unreasonable they should have turned up there. The band were looking for assistance to publicize their music, and became the first band actually to have their record pressed by Rough Trade, which moved from record shop to distributor to record label.
  • "Paris Maquis" is a typically uptempo punk track produced by a band whose vocalist looked every inch a French Johnny Rotten. The song was actually their second single, and was released initially in 1977. >>>
