Songfacts®:

  • This song is about how despite the first amendment guaranteeing freedom of speech, America isn't really free: "You can do it your way if it's done just how I say." >>
    Suggestion credit:
    Dylan - ottawa, KS
  • The title does not appear in the lyrics. "Eye Of The Beholder" comes from the phrase "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder," meaning that people see things in different ways.
  • Lars Ulrich revealed to Vulture in a 2020 interview this the one Metallica song he never wants to hear again. He said that wherever he hears the tune, its two different tempos make it sound "really forced" to him.

"There's kind of a 4/4 feel in the intro and on the verses, and then I think the choruses are more like in a waltz tempo," Ulrich explained. "It literally sounds like two different worlds rubbing up against each other. It sounds very awkward to me. I'm not a huge fan of that song."
  • Labour councillor Tom Coles, upon assuming the role of mayor of Portsmouth, brought an unconventional touch to the swearing-in ceremony. Straying from the traditional path, Coles made a memorable entrance, donning his mayoral robes while "Eye of the Beholder" played in the background.

  • Ramzy from CaI would have to agree with Johnny G. on this one!
  • Josephine from Canadaone of my favorite metallica songs
  • Johnny Goodwin from Canada I feel this songs lyrics speak of today’s world now. Being forced to do things we otherwise wouldn’t, having no say in our freedoms and being led by liars and half truths.
  • 2minuteshate from CtGreat song from when metallica didnt suck
  • Tommy Turnbull from San FranciscoI love this song a lot! I recall seeing it in a commercial back in 2005 when I was 10 shortly before leaving for my first day of acting.
  • Goombario from Jacksonville, FlThis song is really, really long... also has a pretty cool riff
  • Austin from Bristow, VaJudging from the lyrics, it feels as if they are sung from the perspective of Lucemon, the main villian from Digimon Fontier. To some extent that is.
  • Nick from Cairns, AustraliaAwesome song, just like the rest. I think the solo is in the same, if not, similar scale to the solo in wherever I May Roam, as well as The Thing That Should Not Be, not sure, just a thought.
  • Adam from Yarmouth, MeI love this song it is my favorite by Metallica!!!!!!!!
