Low Man's Lyric

Album: ReLoad (1997)

Songfacts®:

  • This song is not of typical Metallica fashion as it is far from their traditional thrash metal roots. It describes the thoughts of a drug addicted homeless man who is suffering through his life, wanting to get another chance. Hence, "maybe you'll understand, and won't cry for this man, cause low man is due" and "please forgive me." >>>

  • This features David Miles on hurdy-gurdy. The hurdy-gurdy is a stringed musical instrument that produces sound by a crank-turned rosined wheel rubbing against the strings. The wheel functions much like a violin bow, and single notes played on the instrument sound similar to a violin. Melodies are played on a keyboard that presses tangents (small wedges, typically made of wood) against one or more of the strings to change their pitch. Like most other acoustic stringed instruments, it has a sound board to make the vibration of the strings audible. >>>

  • Diamond from HomeGreat. Keep it up?
  • Ivan from Frankenmuth, MiThis song makes me feel a lot of pain that I saw in my uncle's eyes when he returned from prison. He had trouble making eye contact with his nieces and nephews, and even more his kids. This song is terribly underrated. It just shows that many people rolled the "terribleness" of Load and ReLoad into one bunch. Both albums have many powerful songs.
  • Mark from AustraliaThis rings true with me. it makes me think back to the lowest point of my life when i thought i had nothing left to live for.
  • Karen from Cebu, PhilippinesThis song is not so familiar to me at first. When I listened to this for the first time, I find this song great... Sadly, its one of Metallica’s underrated songs. This song must be popular.
  • Zero from Nowhere, Nj"So I cry to the alleyway/confess all to the rain. But I lie, lie straight to the mirror/the one I've broken to match my face." = BRILLIANT lyricism!
  • Austin from Bristow, Va@Jose, Megadeth mellowed out in the 90's just like Metallica. But I agree, it would be cool if Slayer tried thinking outside the box like Metallica and Megadeth.
  • Aki from Sunrise, FlThis separates the open-minded musicfan from the provincial metal fan. So it isn't metal; so what? That doesn't stop it from being a heartbreaking song.
  • Ray from Lodi, Njlove love love this song. touchs you right in the pit of your existance. forgot all about it until i stumbled on here tonight. thanks
  • Riki from Tampere, FinlandI cant stop loving song... One of the most underrated song EVER. Just for being on RL... This song... If i had to choose one sound LIKE ME, y know, be my theme song, this would be the one... I simply cant think of anything they could've done better on this...
  • Gaurav from Punjab, IndiaI think this is the best slow song by metallica , better than nothin else matters..i think this is about a man whos regretting for his deeds in past(trash fire is warm....upto...so wicked and worn) and asking the girl to forgive him.
  • Skylar from Den Bosch, Netherlandsthis song is so much better than Nothing Else Matters, this song should be famous and overrated instead of Nothing Else Matters.
it could be about a homeless guy, or just about a guy that wants a girl but she thinks he is not good enough. that's what it remindes me of.
  • Jose from San Salvador, OtherThis guys can play anything, I'd like to see other bands like magadeth or slayer trying to create music outside there genere, MetallicA rocks and this song is one of the greatest
