Songfacts®:

  • 21 Savage is the featured rapper on this Not All Heroes Wear Capes track. The Atlanta hip-hop artist and the St. Louis producer are long term collaborators: 21 broke through with his collaborative EP with Metro Boomin, Savage Mode, and the pair also worked on the rapper's 2017 debut solo record Issa Album. They also released the Without Warning project, a collaborative studio album between the pair and Offset.
  • 21 Savage uses a theatrical whisper flow in the first verse to describe his early days growing up around poverty and violence. On the chorus the Atlanta rapper warms his haters not to "Come Out the House," as he and his gang are hanging around outside.

Savage explained to Genius that his whisper flow came from his writing process. "I don't be whispering to record, I just whisper while I'm thinking of what I'm going to say next," he said. "I might be in the booth like, 'Tss, tss, chh, chh, chh.' It just so happen that Metro was like, 'Say it like that, how you just said it.'"
  • The track was co-produced by Memphis producer Tay Keith and Metro Boomin himself. It is the first collaboration between the two beatmakers. The song was the latest in a string of chart hits in 2018 for Keith, who also supplied the instrumentation for BlocBoy JB's "Look Alive," Travis Scott's "Sicko Mode," and Drake's "Nonstop."
