Songfacts®:

  • This is a song relating to the Mayan prophecy of 12/21/2012. The singer is saying that people think they will have pieces of something to pick up after the destruction but he knows there will be nothing left, so he asks, "Pieces of what?" The line "When the world has turned, paralyzed and wrong" refers to the poles shifting and the entire Earth being frozen or "paralyzed." >>

  • Hello from TorontoI don't know... Doesn't sound like The Mayan prophecy to me. It sounds more like a song about conflict. For example Palestine Israel. That's the most recent one I can think of. Or maybe you ukraine and Russia. in the song they mention Belgium. So could it be world war II perhaps? I'm not sure but I don't think it has anything to do with the Mayan prophecy
  • Brittany from ???????, OhAll i have to say, MGMT is the best band i have ever listened to and i love all of their songs!! Pieces of What is just one of the many i love!!!
  • Eric from Manhattan, NySong about the Mayan prophecy enough said, also 4th Dimensional Transition is about the same thing and a better song than this. I think this song could also be about 9/11 as well.
