Songfacts®:

  • This ballad is the theme song from the Russell Crowe-starring film Fathers & Daughters about the relationship between, yep, a father and daughter. The track is Michael Bolton's first release since 2011.
  • Bolton told the story of the song to Billboard magazine: "I was invited to an early private screening of Fathers & Daughters, and found myself moved to tears. As a father of three daughters myself, I was compelled to write and record what I felt was an emotionally honest expression to my own daughters."

"This title song, which I co-wrote with Emanuel Kiriakou and Evan Bogart, is imagined as a letter from Russell Crowe's character (whose brilliant performance is akin to A Beautiful Mind) to his daughter, played perfectly by Amanda Seyfried. The context and relevance of the song is very specific to the intense circumstances of the film's story, but carries a heartfelt universal sentiment that I believe is going to resonate with fathers and daughters most powerfully."

  • Nick Reynolds from NewportA Truely Amazing and heart felt song. It is more than a song as it resonates with fathers and daughters across the world and in many circumstances including alienation. Michael Bolton has left an inspirational and loving song to the world, thank you from the bottom of my heart from all dads.
