Songfacts®:

  • This sultry Barry Dean, Jon Nite, Thomas Rhett and Jimmy Robbins penned song finds Michael Ray returning to the lip-locking theme of his debut major label single:

    Kiss a little more
    Think a little less
And do the only thing we've been thinking 'bout doing
Since the moment, girl, we met

Ray wrote in a Genius attribution: " I love the honesty in this song, there's just a truth in it. I love the concept, love the melody of it, love the chorus. Some songs grow on you, and then you hear this song, like 'Real Men Love Jesus' or 'Kiss You in the Morning,' you just know right away that, man I really wanna play this song!"
  • The song was released on April 25, 2016 as the third single from Ray's eponymous major-label debut album. He told Billboard magazine:

"It was a song that stood out to myself and everybody during the recording process -- we always wanted it to be a single at some point. Sometimes a song is [already] great, but you get in the studio and something really cool and magical happens. When you hear the final product, you're like 'that one stands out more than the rest,' for whatever reason that is. I feel like people can relate to that situation at some point and time, what the song speaks about."
  • Jimmy Robbins and Barry Dean started writing the tune while they were on the road with Thomas Rhett in Columbus, Ohio back in 2013. Another Jimmy Robbins co-penned song, "It Goes Like This," which had been recorded by Rhett, was in the charts at the time.
  • When Travis Gordon from Universal first played Michael Ray the song's demo, it featured the voice of Thomas Rhett. Ray thought Rhett would want to cut the song but Gordon told him he was free to record it as the "It Goes Like This" singer had already finished laying down the tracks for his album.
