Songfacts®:

  • This classic tear-in-your-beer breakup anthem finds a heartbroken Michael Ray drowning his sorrows in alcohol while rain lashes down outside. A fiddle and somber steel guitar add to the track's melancholy vibe.
  • When Ray wrote the tune with Jesse Frasure and Josh Thompson he set out to pen a track that harkens back to brooding songs from the '80s and '90s. "I miss story songs that you have to listen to all the way through to understand," he explained. "This song is everything I love about country music - traditional country music, like Tim McGraw and Earl Thomas Conley and I want to bring that back. This is the music I originally came to Nashville to make."
  • Sean Hagwell set out to treat the video as a scene from a '90s-era film. The director explained on his website that he wanted to show "a man who was giving himself one more night to live in the sadness." He found a location in Clarksville (about 40 minutes north of Nashville), which the art department converted into "a '90s-era smoky bar."

Hagwell likened Ray's performance and the overall vibe of the clip to Gary Allan's 2003 "Songs About Rain" music video.
