Songfacts®:

  • Brazilian songwriters Sharon Acioly and Antônio Dyggs penned this song in 2008 and it was first recorded by Os Meninos de Seu Zeh, before being covered by various regional Brazilian bands. Realizing that it had the potential to become a national hit in Brazil, Dyggs offered the tune to Brazilian singer-songwriter, Michel Teló. The songwriter's confidence in his tune proved correct, as not only did Teló's version top the national charts in 2011, but also it went to #1 in many other countries, including France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands and Spain.
  • The song reached the Billboard Hot 100, making Michel Teló the first Brazilian solo act to have a song enter the US singles chart since Sérgio Mendes in the 1960s.
  • The track sparked a dance phenomenon, helped by various footballers celebrating scoring a goal with its dance moves. Most famously, Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid danced to the choreography of the song with Marcelo Vieira after he scored the first goal against Málaga CF on October 22, 2011.
  • Teló also released an English language version titled, "Oh, If I Catch You!"
  • The single release in the UK is a remix by Syco featuring teenage American rapper Becky G.
