Songfacts®:

  • This sold 10 million copies worldwide, but none in the USA - in America it was a #20 hit for the brother and sister duo Mac And Katie Kissoon.
  • "Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep" was originally recorded by it's composer, Liverpudlian Lally Scott. It was a minor hit for him in Italy, Australia and America. A Scottish foursome, Los Caracas, who played Latin-American music and had tasted some success in Europe, were recommended the song and they recorded it under the name of Middle of the Road. Their version became a hit on continental Europe, and then, with support from BBC Radio 1 DJ Tony Blackburn, it soared up the UK charts.
  • When Middle of the Road were originally offered this Bubblegum song their initial response was they would only record it if drunk. Their follow-up single "Tweedle Dee Tweedle Dum," a song about two feuding Scottish clans which peaked at #2 in the UK, was also written by Lally Scott. >>>

  • Larry from B.c.What happened to the rest of the tunes that the Middle of the Road sang? Why are they "NOT" listed here? They where Hits in Europe!
  • Esskayess from Dallas, TxNever had a clue with this song was actually about, but such can be said of many songs from the 70s.
  • Steve from Whittier, CaWasn't the song about birds? Mac and Katie Kissoon actually have had quite the long career, and so have both MOR and LS.
  • Lisa from Milwaukee, Wi, WiIt's hard to get behind a song with such ridiculous lyrics. What does it mean, anyway?
  • Howard from St. Louis Park, MnI never heard Middle of the Road's version of Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep but I remember Mac and Katie Kissoon's well. It was the only hit for the brother-sister duo from Port-of-Spain Trinidad.
  • Mark from London, EnglandSadly, bassist and singer, Eric MacRedie, died on October 6th, 2007.
