Songfacts®:

  • The suicide of Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington on July 20, 2017 hit Mike Shinoda hard; he started writing songs as a coping mechanism in the wake of his best friend's death. As he accumulated material for Post Traumatic, Shinoda tried to move away from writing lyrics directly inspired by Bennington's passing, but he found his former bandmate still seemed to influence the content.

Even when it's not about you, all of a sudden it's about you

Shinoda explained to Beats 1's Zane Lowe the influence Chester Bennington had on the track. "A lot of the early stuff on this album was about what had happened and Chester and all that, and then I started trying to write some songs that weren't about Chester and weren't about that whole thing," he said.

"I realized people would still hear them as if they were about him," Shinoda continued. "It was like, 'Man, even when I try to make a song that's not about him, it still feels like it's about him.'"
  • The track features Blackbear on the bridge. The American musician is best known for co-writing Justin Bieber's hit song "Boyfriend."
